Here is the seminar description:
  • The objective of this seminar is to introduce and facilitate critical discussion around the central elements of Adam Smith’s social, economic, and political thought. These elements to find expression in his idea of the system of natural liberty: a political system in which the government largely focuses on defense, the administration of justice, and the provision of a few public goods, leaving individuals free to pursue their prudential interests and cultivate virtue in the context of community. The system of natural liberty, by Smith’s lights, provides the social, economic, and political framework most advantageous for the flourishing of humankind.

Here is an AEI webinar introducing the project, featuring Dan Klein (George Mason), Jim Otteson (Notre Dame), Russ Roberts (Stanford University, Hoover Institute), and Maria Pia Paganelli (Trinity University).
